Allion is a flat-leaf, chive-like green that tastes best when young. Perennial, hardy plants return each year with ever-larger crops of pungent onion flavor for salads, stews, soups and sandwiches.
In spring plants form pretty purple masses of fragrant vertical spikes, which are not edible. Bulbs overwinter readily.
