Carolina Cross #183 produces enormous oblong watermelons with light green stripes. Fruit is ready to harvest about 100 days after sowing.
For earlier fruit, start the seeds indoors in a warm, well-lit area 3–4 weeks before the last spring frost. Harden the seedlings in a sheltered outdoor spot for a week before planting them in the garden. Plastic mulch helps control weeds, conserve soil moisture and keep the fruit off the ground.
