Description
Burpee Sesame Herb produces upright annual plants 3–4 feet tall, with broad, lance-shaped leaves and tubular flowers that may be yellow, white, blue or purple. The pods ripen around mid-September and split open naturally, making the pear-shaped seeds easy to collect.
Lightly roasted seeds add a nutty flavor to dressings and cooked dishes, while ground seeds make tahini. Sesame has been cultivated for thousands of years and can grow in hot, dry conditions.
