Description
Honeynut is an open-pollinated petite gourmet butternut, smaller than Butterscotch and Butterbaby at 2-1/2 inches wide by 4-5 inches long and 1/2 to 1-1/2 lbs. The thin golden-honey skin ripens late on the vine and the smooth tender flesh turns caramel-sweet when roasted.
Sow seeds 1/2-1 inch deep in 70-85ºF soil. Sprout comes in 7-10 days. Start indoors 3-4 weeks before last frost in individual pots and transplant 36-48 inches apart after frost, or sow outside after frost when soil is over 70ºF. One right-sized packet plants a 12-15 foot row.
