Description
Pingtung Long is an open-pollinated oriental eggplant imported from Taiwan. Its lavender-purple fruits average 10 inches long and 1 1/2 to 2 inches across, with white flesh and an average weight of about 1/2 pound. The plants are bred for resistance to many diseases and tolerance of wet, hot conditions.
Sow the seeds 1/4 inch deep indoors 8–10 weeks before the last frost, keeping the soil at 75–90°F. Transplant after frost, then harvest when the fruit is shiny and smooth; picking the first usable fruits helps encourage further production.
