Description
Early Purple Sprouting is an old English open-pollinated broccoli planted out in mid to late summer, overwintered, and cut for florets the following spring. It does best in mild climates and needs protection below 15 degrees.
Sow 1/4 inch deep in 65-85ºF soil. Sprouts show in 3-10 days. Start indoors 4-6 weeks before last frost or sow outside when soil reaches 55ºF, spacing 12-18 inches apart. For spring harvest, sow in midsummer. Pick heads tight before buds open to extend side-shoot production.
