Description
Elecampane (Inula helenium) is a perennial herb that forms erect, branching stalks and bright yellow flowers from mid to late summer. Established plants produce roots harvested in fall, while the roots and flowers can be used for natural dyeing.
Sow the seeds on the soil surface because they need light to germinate. Start indoors 6–10 weeks before the last frost or sow outdoors in mid-spring once the soil reaches 55–60°F. Transplant after frost.
