Flax, Linum usitatissimum, grows to about 3 feet with lavender-blue flowers on lightly branching stems. This packet sows beds, borders and cutting rows, and the flowers draw bees and beneficial insects.
Sow 1/8 inch deep indoors 4-6 weeks before the last frost at 60-65°F, then move outside after frost. Outdoors sow in mid-spring in fertile, well-drained soil in full sun. Sprouts show in 7-14 days. Pull whole plants for seed harvest and hang bundles upside down in a cool, dark place to dry.
