Description
Helenor is an open-pollinated rutabaga, a turnip and wild cabbage cross known as Swedes. Roots grow globe-shaped with purple tops cresting from the soil and sweet creamy golden flesh.
Sow 1/2 inch deep outdoors in mid-spring, a few seeds every 6 inches, then thin to the strongest seedling. Sprouts in 5-7 days at 65-75°F soil. One packet plants a 12-15 foot row. Harvest after a few touches of frost, before roots turn big and woody.
