Description
Only the Lonely Nicotiana produces upright 4- to 4 1/2-foot stalks topped with clusters of pendulous white blooms. The 4-inch trumpet flowers bloom through summer and release their strongest fragrance in the evening.
Sow seeds on the surface because they need light to germinate, starting indoors 6–8 weeks before the last frost or direct sowing after it. Seeds germinate in 7–10 days at 70–75°F. The plants reseed easily, and cutting back faded stems encourages more flowers.
