Description
Red Russian kale is an heirloom Brassica oleracea prized in Eastern European cooking. Oak-shaped leaves shift from reddish green to red after frost, and the flavor sweetens in cold weather.
Sow 1/2 inch deep. Sprout takes 3 to 10 days at 70 to 85ºF soil. Start indoors 4 to 6 weeks before the last frost, or sow outdoors from spring once soil reaches 55ºF and again in midsummer for fall crops. Space 12 to 18 inches apart. Packet holds 30 seeds.
