Royal Crown is a hybrid turnip variety selected for quick growth in spring or fall. Roots run white and smooth with purple shoulders, slightly flattened, while tops stay short with plenty of leaves for cooking.
Sow 1/2 inch deep outdoors from early spring through late summer, 1/2 to 1 inch apart, then thin to 3 to 6 inches apart. Sprouts in 5 to 7 days at 60 to 75ºF. One packet plants an 8 foot row; pick baby to full size for the most tender flavor.
