Description
Snake Gourd (Lagenaria siceraria) produces light-green gourds with mottled skin, reaching up to 3 feet long and about 8 inches around. The mature gourds can be grown as a conversation piece or dried for decorative use.
Sow 1 inch deep once the soil reaches at least 70°F, or start indoors 3–4 weeks before the last frost. Give each plant 36–48 inches and use fertile soil with ample nitrogen. Mature Lagenaria gourds need 3–6 months to cure in a dry, well-ventilated place; they are ready when light and the seeds rattle inside.
