Description
Tom Watson is a pre-1900 heirloom watermelon that produces very large fruit while remaining suitable for shorter growing seasons. The melons have thin, hard green rinds with darker green stripes, sweet red flesh, and brown and white seeds; individual fruit weighs 25–40 pounds.
The packet contains 20 seeds. Sow 1/2 inch deep indoors 3–4 weeks before the last frost or outdoors after frost when the soil is above 70°F. Transplant or thin plants to 36–48 inches apart. A packet covers an 18–20 foot single row, or about 5–6 hills.
