Description
Shirogoma Sesame is Sesamum indicum, a white-seeded type of an ancient crop. Multi-stemmed plants reach 3-4 feet and make tubular flowers, then 1-2 inch pods with about 30 seeds per stem.
Sow 1/4 inch deep after the last frost when soil reaches at least 70ºF. Keep soil at 70-85ºF and sprouts come in 7-12 days. Thin to 6-12 inches apart and let soil dry between waterings. Cut pod-covered stems when lower pods start to split.
