Description
Tennis Ball is a butterhead heirloom once grown at Monticello, forming compact heads with silky, buttery leaves. Cut in half, a head makes a salad for two.
Sow 1/4 inch deep. Sprouting takes 4-10 days at 60-70ºF; soil above 70ºF slows it. Start 3-4 weeks before setting out and plant outside after frost, 8-12 inches apart. Sow outdoors in spring once soil reaches 50ºF, repeating every 2-3 weeks.
